STATESVILLE, N.C. — A driver of a pickup truck died after his pickup truck collided head-on with a tractor-trailer in Statesville, officials said.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m., the Statesville Police Department responded to a call about a fully engulfed tractor-trailer on the 1600 block of Salisbury Highway.
At the scene, officials determined that a Dodge Dakota was traveling west on Salisbury Highway when it crossed the center turning lane and collided head-on with a UPS tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Dodge Dakota, later identified as 51-year-old Robert William Prescott, died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was able to get out of the vehicle before it caught fire.
A passenger in Prescott’s vehicle was taken to Baptist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
