Police: Woman charged after deadly crash in downtown Albemarle

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Police have filed charges after a deadly crash on Dec. 6 in downtown Albemarle.

The crash happened at the intersection of US Highway 52 and West Main Street. Police said just after 7 a.m., a 2020 Jeep Wrangler was driving north on Highway 52 when it collided with a 2013 Honda Odyssey driving east on West Main Street.

The driver of the Jeep, 51-year-old Mitchell Morton, died from his injuries.

Police said that after completing their investigation, they charged the driver of the Honda Odyssey, 33-year-old Asia Grady.

Grady was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop at a steady red light, and failure to wear seatbelt by driver.

Grady’s first court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m.
