5 men accused of robbing teens at gunpoint at Steele Creek apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have arrested five men accused of robbing two teenagers at gunpoint Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a south Charlotte apartment complex.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said officers responded to an armed robbery in progress just after 3:30 p.m. near Sharon Lakes Road in Steele Creek.

When they got to the area, police started searching for a group who reportedly robbed two 15-year-old boys at gunpoint.

In less than five minutes, officials said CMPD's helicopter found the suspects in a car, speeding away from the area.

After pinpointing its location, officers were able to stop the car and arrest the five men inside.

Authorities said they searched the vehicle and found two pistols, a BB gun, two ski masks and property belonging to one of the victims.

SUSPECTS AND THEIR CHARGES:

  • Se'Jour Frederick, 19 -- robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property
  • Nathaniel Williams II, 20 -- robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property
  • Brandon Foster, 18 -- robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property
  • Christian Smith, 18 -- robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property
  • Brandon Ellison, 18 -- Conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property

Officials said all five suspects were interviewed by CMPD detectives and were taken into custody by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

CMPD praised the work of their emergency response team, patrol units and Aviation Unit on the case.

In the last 28 days, police said they have responded to 28 robberies.

Investigators are checking to see if the teens from this case are connected to others.

A mother who said she knows the victims is thankful police were in the right place at the right time.

“I was really happy they could come here that quick and to know I am safe,” the mother said.

No injuries were reported.
