The crash happened around 1 a.m. along West Boulevard near Interstate 77.

Duke Energy crews were able to make repairs to the damaged pole and police cleared the scene on West Boulevard and Fordham Road around 4 a.m.

Channel 9 could see extensive damage to the CATS bus, and broken glass covered the front of the bus, where it hit the utility pole.

Police said four people were on the bus when it collided with a white passenger car.

Paramedics treated five people on the lawn of a church before they were all transported to the hospital. Officials told Channel 9 that two patients were in critical condition.

Eyewitness News spoke with another driver who came upon to the crash before first responders arrived and tried to block the road in order to keep the injured safe.

“I just put my hazards on,” said Henry Funderburk. “Put the flashlight on my phone and started waving it on the road so cars couldn’t get through. I didn't know if anyone was in the road or not, I just tried to convert them a little bit.”

Investigators have not said which driver was at fault but officers went to the hospital to speak with the people involved in the wreck to get a better idea of what happened.

No charges have been filed yet.
