POLKTON, N.C. — A lieutenant and a sergeant were stabbed by inmates at Lanesboro Correctional Institution around 2 p.m. Thursday and are being treated for their injuries at local hospitals, officials said in a news release.
Two more staff members were injured after being assaulted with a broom handle and were treated by prison medical staff.
The prison was temporarily locked down while an investigation begins.
The Polkton Police Department has requested the State Bureau of Investigation’s assistance in the case.
The lieutenant and sergeant remain hospitalized for observation but are expected to recover.
