3 hurt in crash into Uptown restaurant

CHARLOTTE — Three people are hurt from a crash in Uptown overnight Sunday.

MEDIC says it happened around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of West Fifth Street and North Church Street.

A car crashed into the popular restaurant Church and Union. It’s not clear if all of the injured people were in the car.

The owners told Channel 9′s Joe Bruno they were closed when the crash happened. there were no guests on the property, and no staff were injured.

The restaurant will not be open Sunday, but owners do not anticipate a prolonged closure. A voice message was sent to those who had reservations Sunday morning.

“I do apologize for calling so early this morning. But I do need to call you to cancel your reservation due to an accident that involved a car coming through the front window,” the message said. “So we will be closed today. If you want to call us back and reschedule for next weekend that would be great.”

It’s unclear if anyone will face charges. The restaurant hopes to open back up as early as tomorrow night.
