Trio charged in connection with shooting, chase in Stanly County

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — Three people were arrested Tuesday night in Stanly County after a shooting in Albemarle that led to a chase which ended in Locust, police said Wednesday in a news release.

Albemarle police were called to the Shell gas station on N.C. Highway 24/27 Bypass West in Albemarle where someone had been shot. A white Mercedes Benz had left the scene, according to reports.

Meanwhile, officers spotted the Mercedes on West Main Street in Albemarle and tried to pull the car over. The driver didn’t stop and a pursuit began.

The Mercedes eventually stopped in Locust and two people were arrested at the scene and taken back to the Albemarle Police Department.

The shooting victim was taken to Northeast Medical Center and was in stable condition as of Wednesday.

Albemarle detectives charged Justin Flip, 43, of Charlotte, with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into occupied property, felony conspiracy, possession of firearm by felon, and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.

Flip was taken to the Stanly County Jail and booked on a $300,000 secured bond.

Detectives also charged Johnna T. Jones, 38, of Rock Hill, with felony conspiracy and felony flee to elude arrest. She was in the Stanly County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond.

Detectives also charged Douglas R. Thomas, 59, of Norwood, with altering or destruction of evidence. He was jailed on a $1,500 secured bond.
