KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Kannapolis Police said on Wednesday that it charged three men in connection with the Dec. 24, 2024, shooting death of 26-year-old Angelo Markantonakis during a home invasion at 303 Windy Rush Drive.
Justin Javan Roberts, 40, of Kannapolis, was taken into custody today in Charlotte, while two other suspects incarcerated in California are awaiting extradition.
All three suspects face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The law enforcement breakthrough follows a reward of up to $25,000 previously issued by Gov. Josh Stein for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
According to a news release from the governor’s office, three masked individuals broke into the home on Dec. 24, 2024. Officers responding to the residence found Markantonakis dead from gunshot wounds after he was shot twice in front of his girlfriend and their 3-year-old son.
The U.S. Marshals Service assisted Kannapolis Police Department investigators in locating the suspects after they were identified in connection with the killing.
Deonandre Isaiah Potts, 26, of California, and Antonio Martez Woodard, 36, of Charlotte, were identified as the remaining two suspects. Both men are currently incarcerated in California.
Potts and Woodard are awaiting extradition to North Carolina, where they will be formally charged in the case.
