2022 Fourth of July fireworks and festivities in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Big celebrations are back for Fourth of July this year.

Here’s a list of events that will hopefully help you enjoy a fun and patriotic Independence Day in Charlotte.

Before you head out, be sure to check the individual websites included below for the most up-to-date information in case of bad weather.

On the Fourth

July 4

Baxter Village / Fort Mill’s Fourth of July Parade — The parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. at 900 Market Street and will feature more than 150 units, including bands, bagpipers, floats, classic and vintage cars, mascots, clowns, decorated vehicles and golf carts, and street entertainers.

Birkdale Village Fourth of July Celebration & Parade — Kids are invited to deck their bikes out with festive stars and stripes decor for a parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. There will also be live music, street performers and other festivities.

Fourth of July Celebration in Dallas — The town of Dallas will host a concert beginning at 6 p.m. in Cloninger Park. Fireworks will follow the show. Admission is free.

City of Gastonia’s Fourth of July Celebration — Festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion. There will be live music, games, rides, inflatables and food vendors. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Independence Day Parade in Waxhaw — The town of Waxhaw will host its annual Fourth of July parade beginning at 10 a.m. at Broome Street and Main Street.

Indian Trail July Fourth Parade — The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. Floats will step off from Post Office Drive and head straight down Indian Trail Road.

Fireworks at Lake Wylie — Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Buster Boyd Bridge. Best viewing areas include the Buster Boyd Bridge Boat Landing and lakefront restaurants.

Fireworks Show in Lenoir — The city of Lenoir will host a fireworks show at Optimist Park beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Fourth of July Celebration in Tega Cay — There will a parade at 9 a.m. and fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.

WBT SkyShow — The Charlotte Knights and News Talk 1110 AM will host the annual WBT SkyShow at Truist Field in uptown. With the Knights on the road, USA Baseball will take the field with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The fireworks show will begin immediately after the game. Tickets start at $19.

Organizers told Channel 9 they are hoping to top las year’s record attendance that fell just shy of 11,000 fans.

“It’s the largest fireworks show in the southeast and we’re looking forward to it this year,” said Tommy Viola, vice president of communications for the Charlotte Knights. “We’re certainly hoping for that many fans this year.”

Russ Ellis choreographs the pyrotechnics of the show for the Knights. He said the baseball team sent him a playlist and it was his job to choose fireworks to match it.

“We have 1,200 3-inch shells and we have another 25,000 shells that we’ll be putting out here,” Ellis said.

If you don’t want to catch the ball game, fireworks from the stadium can be seen from most places in uptown, including Romare Bearden Park.

Fourth of July Fireworks Show in York — The city of York will host a fireworks show at York Middle School from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be food trucks, games and live music. Admission is free.

Salute from the Shore — A patriotic flyover will begin just north of Myrtle Beach at 1 p.m. and will travel down the coastline to Bluffton. Beachgoers will be able to see F-16s from McEntire Joint National Guard Base as well as C-17s out of Joint Base Charleston.

Harrisburg Fourth of July Celebration — The town of Harrisburg will host a two-day celebration at Harrisburg Park at 191 Sims Parkway. Festivities include live music on Sunday, a parade on Highway 49 and fireworks on Monday. Admission is free, but there will be a small fee for the amusement rides.

U.S. National Whitewater Center Fourth of July Celebration — Festivities will span two days and include live music, races and multiple yoga practices. There will not be fireworks.

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers will have fireworks following the game against the Carolina Mudcats on Monday at Atrium Health Ballpark in downtown Kannapolis.

July 5

Charlotte Motor Speedway will have fireworks as part of its Summer Shootout racing series on Tuesday.

The Gastonia Honey Hunters will have fireworks following the game against High Point on Tuesday at CaroMont Health Park.

Ahead of the holiday

July 2-4

Celebrate America Fireworks Show at Carowinds — Carowinds will host a patriotic celebration throughout the holiday weekend that includes fireworks accompanied by an all-American soundtrack. Included with park admission.

July 3

Davidson’s Fourth of July Parade — Everyone can join Davidson’s patriotic parade along South Street beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and decorate their wagons or bikes as well. A concert on the town green will follow the parade. There will not be fireworks.

Fireworks and Field of Flags in Mooresville — The Field of Flags, which commemorate veterans, fallen and active service members, and first responders, will be on display on the front lawn of the Lowe’s YMCA from Saturday through Tuesday. On Sunday, there will be a ceremony and concert followed by fireworks beginning at 6 p.m.

Red, White & BOOM! in Rock Hill — Old Town Rock Hill will host a celebration that includes live music, inflatables, food trucks and fireworks beginning at 5 p.m. on Main Street. Admission is free.
