CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two women were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night in Plaza Midwood, police said.
Catherine Pledgure told Channel 9 that she was walking to Snug Harbor with a friend who was visiting from Rock Hill around 10:30 p.m. when they were robbed at gunpoint.
"I didn't even see him at all until we were in the alley just walking. All of a sudden I heard footsteps, like approaching us, and I was like 'Who is this person?'" she said.
Pledgure said they had just parked their car in the back of the bar and were approached as they were walking in the alley to the front.
"He just held the gun up and was like, 'Uh just give me all your stuff.' I was like 'OK.' He wanted our phones, but he took our purses too," she said.
The robber and another man jumped into a car and sped off, and the women ran inside the bar and called 911.
Police said Wednesday that they haven't made any arrests but are investigating the case.
Pledgure said a construction worker found her purse Wednesday morning.
He returned it to Johnson and Wells University, after finding her Student ID in her purse.
The popular Plaza Midwood neighborhood has seen several cases of violent crime over the last few months.
A man was shot in the same alley last month after police said he got into a fight with another man in Snug Harbor.
Katie Jones, 26, a Midwood Smokehouse employee, was shot and killed in the area as she was walking home after meeting friends at the time she was shot.
No arrests have been made in her case.
Many people who work in the area said they have been on edge this year.
Amanda O'Dell said she works right above Midwood Smokehouse.
"All the girls in the office were saying when we leave at night, make sure we have someone with us if it was dark" O’Dell said.
