CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters are investigating the cause of an east Charlotte apartment fire that left two people seriously hurt early Sunday morning.
It happened around 8 a.m. on Central Avenue at the Briar Creek Commons Apartments.

Officials said the fire started in the kitchen area of a third-story apartment, but it is unclear what caused the blaze or how much damage there is.
Charlotte Fire said there were five people in the apartment at the time of the fire -- two were rescued from the third-floor balcony while another person jumped.
MEDIC took two people from the apartment to the hospital with serious injuries.
The fire remains under investigation, but no other information has been released.
