2 killed, 10-year-old seriously injured in Morganton head-on crash

MORGANTON, N.C. — Two men were killed Thursday night in a head-on crash near the intersection of Reep Drive and Carbon City Road in Morganton.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2004 Dodge Ram truck, occupied by only the driver, was traveling west on Carbon City Road.

A 2005 Dodge Caravan, occupied by a family of four, was traveling east on Carbon City Road.

The driver of the Dodge Ram crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with the Caravan.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan died from injuries suffered in the crash a short time after being freed from the vehicle.

A 10-year-old child suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to Carolina Healthcare System Main in Charlotte and is in critical condition.

A woman suffered severe injuries and was transferred to CHS Charlotte in stable condition. A 3-year-old child was uninjured.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was critically injured and was taken to CHS Charlotte, where he died about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

A witness reported that the driver of the Ram truck had been driving carelessly, recklessly passing vehicles on the double yellow lines just before crashing head-on into the Caravan.
