A car struck a stopped truck in the right lane on Interstate 85 North near the Cox Road Exit in Lowell.
The car, after hitting the truck, spun out and ran into a tractor-trailer.
Traffic was backed up for about 2 miles. Two of the four lanes were shut down for a couple of hours.
It is unknown why the vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road.
A motor scooter was in the bed of the truck, which was hurled onto the interstate.
“Everything is still under investigation,” Trooper Jamarcus Nance said. “Nobody's been charged right now but charges are coming.”
No further information has been released.
