2 hurt after fire destroys home in south Charlotte, officials say

CHARLOTTE — Two people were hurt after a fire destroyed a home in south Charlotte early Sunday morning, according to officials.

It happened just after midnight at a home on Abbey Hill Lane and Johnston Road. Paramedics said two people were transported to the hospital, one of them with serious injuries.

The Charlotte Fire Department said it took over an hour to control the fire. Officials said the fire was accidental due to improper disposal of smoking materials. The house is a complete loss and the damage is estimated at $540,000
