CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sunday night's episode of American Idol on ABC featured two contestants from the Charlotte region.

Seventeen-year-old Shannon O’Hara from Mooresville and 19-year-old Johnny White from Hickory auditioned for judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryant, and Lionel Richie to see if they had what it takes to make it to Hollywood.

They have two incredible stories. Johnny has fought through homelessness and adoption to get to where he is now.

Shannon does street ministry and volunteers with the homeless.

Both have been working their whole lives for the opportunity.

"I have dreamed of doing this ever since I was a kid. To actually, finally, to be able to do this is such a blessing," Johnny told us in a recent interview.

After some personal coaching from judge Lionel Richie, Johnny got his golden ticket.

Shannon performed at the piano and also got her ticket to Hollywood.

Congratulations to both! We can't wait to see how far you can go.
