YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A mother and her 3-year-old son were killed in a wrong-way crash Saturday night on I-77 in York County, the coroner revealed Monday morning.
A car crash on I-77 near South Anderson Road killed two people and injured two others Saturday night, officials said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a tractor-trailer was heading north on I-77 when a Honda entered the interstate near South Anderson Road going the wrong direction.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Dasieka Hawthorne, 34, was not injured, officials said.
Ebony Roscoe and her 3-year-old son Malik Easley from Charlotte died at the scene, Highway Patrol said.
Officials said two other girls in the Honda, a 16-year-old and an 11-year-old, were transported to the hospital. Their names have not been released.
The 3-year-old and 11-year-old were not wearing their seatbelts, according to investigators.
Channel 9 uncovered that it's not Roscoe's first incident on the road.
She was arrested two months ago in Mecklenburg County for driving while impaired.
Troopers have not said if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but the coroner's office said a toxicology test is pending.
Troopers said it's the only wrong-way crash that's happened on I-77 in York County in 2017.
Channel 9 spoke to neighbors and friends of Roscoes, and they all said she was a wonderful mother who would do anything for her children.
