2 Concord firefighters hurt in crash responding to call, officials say

CONCORD, N.C. — At least three people, including two firefighters, were injured after a fire truck and a tractor-trailer collided Friday in Concord.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Weddington Road, near Bruton Smith Boulevard, in front of the fire station.

According to officials, the firefighters were responding to a call when the collision took place.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital, as was the driver of the big rig, but authorities said everyone would be OK. Channel 9 crews could see at least one firefighter being taken away in an ambulance.

It was still unclear who was at fault or if any charges would be filed.

The road was blocked temporarily but has since reopened.
