2-alarm apartment fire in north Charlotte ruled accidental, investigators say

Education Way Charlotte Fire (Charlotte Fire Department)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 2-alarm apartment fire in north Charlotte early Saturday morning was determined to be accidental, according to firefighters.

It happened just after 2 a.m. on Education Way, which is off E. Mallard Creek Church Road and North Tryon Street.

When firefighters got to the area, they said fire and smoke could be seen coming from the 3-story apartment.

Officials said it took more than 50 firefighters around 40 minutes to control the 2-alarm fire.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators were able to determine the fire was accidental and started because of “discarded smoking materials.” They estimated the damages to be around $12,500.

No other information has been released.
