GASTONIA, N.C. — Paramedics said nearly a dozen people were hurt after a truck crashed into the back of a Gastonia Transit van early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on Franklin Boulevard, near the Gaston Mall.

Officials told Channel 9 reporter Ken Lemon that the van was heading east and had slowed at a bus stop when it was rear-ended by the truck, sending it into a utility pole.

Emergency crews said 11 people were hurt, but only three had to be taken to the hospital. Two of those patients suffered serious injuries but will be OK, according to paramedics.

The eastbound lanes of Franklin Boulevard were closed while police investigated the crash.

No charges have been filed.
