CHARLOTTE — A teen was taken to a hospital Thursday night after a shooting in south Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told the Eastover Resident’s Association, who then sent a letter to homeowners.
Police responded around 8 p.m. to two scenes around the same time -- one at the corner of Cherokee Road and Providence Road, and the other about 5 miles south on Providence Road near Old Providence Road.

Channel 9 has now learned the shooting took place near a gas station on Old Providence Road. The victim who was shot was being driven to a hospital when their vehicle broke down near Cherokee Road, according to a letter from the Eastover Resident’s Association. A person in the car then went to a house on Providence Road to ask for help and call 911.
MEDIC responded to Cherokee Road and took a 15-year-old victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a police report. A 16-year-old also suffered minor injuries.
On Cherokee Road, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police focused their attention on a white minivan with its tires worn down to the rim. The rear window also appeared to be shot out.
Reporter Jonathan Lowe could see more than a dozen evidence markers placed on shell casings at the scene near Old Providence Road. A clerk working at the Exxon at that intersection told Lowe that he heard as many as 20 gunshots.
Officials have not said if any arrests have been made.
Anti-violence activist Lucille Pucket said she was sadly not surprised by yet another shooting with teenage victims.
“What are we doing as community leaders, as elected officials to really address this violent crime that’s involving these teenagers,” she said.
The Brookdale Carriage Club, a senior living facility, was also placed on lockdown Thursday night. Staff members told Channel 9 a stray bullet hit two doors there, but nobody was hurt.
The Eastover Residents Association said CMPD confirmed the shooting did not happen in the Eastover neighborhood near Myers Park.
No other details have been released.
