Woman killed in north Charlotte hit-and-run, police say

CHARLOTTE — Police in Charlotte say the victim of a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning has died.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday on N. Caldwell Street, not far from Optimist Hall.

MEDIC originally reported that one person was left seriously hurt. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said on Tuesday that the victim died from her injuries.

The victim was identified as 53-year-old Wanda Rena Sheppard.

Witnesses told CMPD officers that a “dark-colored vehicle” hit Sheppard before driving away from the scene. The car was last seen driving toward E. 12th Street.

A suspect hasn’t been identified yet.
