Man seriously hurt after being shot inside west Charlotte apartment

CHARLOTTE — Neighbors in west Charlotte are on alert after police said a man walked into an apartment Sunday morning, shot someone and ran off.

Officers responded to the scene at around 3:45 a.m. on Clanton Road near Sargeant Drive.

According to a police report, a woman who lives in the apartment said someone got in and shot a man who was inside, leaving him seriously hurt. Investigators said the woman didn’t know the shooter.

The man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

“Nobody should have to endure something like that in their own home,” a neighbor said.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw an apartment complex covered in crime scene tape and officers investigating.

Police have not said what led to the shooting or if any arrests have been made. Channel 9 is also working to learn if the man and suspect knew each other.

Once the suspect is arrested, police said they will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

One neighbor said she hopes the gunman is arrested soon and that she’s praying for the victim.

“I hope he’s fine and he pulls through because God has the last say,” she said.
