$1 million Powerball ticket sold in Iredell County

TROUTMAN, N.C. — There might not have been any new billionaires after Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, but a lucky person in the Charlotte area won a $1 million prize by matching all five of the white balls.

The North Carolina Education Lottery announced Thursday that a lottery ticket sold at a Sheetz in Troutman ended up being worth a cool million (before taxes, anyway.) The winning numbers for Wednesday’s drawing were 2, 11, 22, 35, and 60, and the red Powerball was 23, according to lottery officials.

Twelve more tickets in North Carolina ended up winning $50,000, with one of those tickets doubling to $100,000 when the 2X Power Play multiplier hit.

Wednesday night’s drawing was much more lucrative for North Carolinians than Monday’s drawing. Ten people won $1 million from Monday night’s numbers, but none of them were from the Carolinas.

Since nobody took the big prize on Wednesday, the Powerball is rolling on with a bigger jackpot on Saturday. As of Thursday, the payout was at $1.5 billion, and the more tickets that are sold, the higher the jackpot goes.
