CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have determined that a road-rage incident took place before a deadly two-vehicle wreck Monday night in west Charlotte.
Officers said they're searching for newer model, grey Toyota Camry that was involved in the incident.
Police said the road-rage incident started on I-77 and proceeded onto Freedom Drive, until they said a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Kianna Cockfield, and a Suzuki SX4, driven by Jason Black, collided at Alleghany Street.
Black was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Investigators told Channel 9 that Black, 30, was trying to make a U-turn on Freedom Drive when Cockfield collided with the passenger side of the Suzuki at a high rate of speed.
After impact, the Silverado crashed into a power pole, bringing down power lines across Freedom Drive.
Cockfield was charged with involuntary manslaughter, careless and reckless driving and speeding.
Police have not said if it was Cockfield or Black involved in the road-rage incident prior to the crash.
Anyone wiht information on the Toyota Camry or the driver is asked to call Detective N.S. Bush at 704-432-2169, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
