CHARLOTTE — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when they collided with a Charlotte Area Transit System bus in north Charlotte, police said.

It happened on North Graham Street at West Craighead Road just after 7:30 p.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the motorcyclist, 45-year-old Juan Carlos Vasquez-Reyes, was found lying in the road. He later died at the scene.

The bus driver was taken to an area hospital but wasn’t seriously hurt.

Investigators believe Reyes was speeding down North Graham Street when he made a left turn, hitting the CATS bus. It’s unknown if Reyes was impaired, police said, as toxicology results are pending.

North Graham Street between Reagan Drive and Starita Road was closed for the crash investigation.
