Officers got there and found 33-year-old La’Nard Gaddy, who had been shot. Gaddy died at the scene.
Three other victims were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds, according to police.
Two, who had life-threatening injuries were taken to Atrium Health. One shooting victim had serious injuries and was taken to Novant Health.
Channel 9′s Glenn Counts spoke with Jade Mullis, who said she went to high school with Gaddy.
“He was sweet, he was so sweet. I’ve known him since we were little we grew up together,” Mullis told Channel 9.
She said she was out with Gaddy the night of the shooting but didn’t witness what led up to the incident.
“We just came to have fun. I was inside. I didn’t see what happened, all we heard was the gunshots. They made of vacate out the back of the building and I came around and that’s when I saw him. ‘You tried to help him?’ I tried to do CPR. He was alive, but he got shot in the lungs,” Mullis explained.
Channel 9 also spoke with Gaddy’s sister-in-law Shakerrie Mobley. Mobley said he worked in construction and was the father of a 6-year-old little girl.
“How do you tell a young girl that the father that she was waiting to pick her up, is not picking her up for Father’s Day? It’s just very hard to deal with,” Mobley said.
