GASTONIA, N.C. — One person was killed and two others were critically injured when their car crashed into a cinder block building, Gastonia police said. It happened early Friday night in the 100 block of South Webb Street.
Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Demario McCoy. He was a passenger riding in the back of the car, police said.

The two people in the hospital, the driver and another passenger in the car, were seriously injured and are expected to survive.
According to the Gastonia Police Department, the car was heading south on Webb Street when it drove off the road out of a curve and hit the building.
South Webb Street was closed for several hours. The road was reopened at about 10 p.m.
Speed was a factor, investigators said. Police are also looking into whether impairment had anything to do with the crash.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
