1 killed, 1 hurt in fiery Gaston County crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed in a serious crash in Gaston County Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Gaston County Police Department, the crash happened around 4:11 a.m. on New Hope Road at Sam Brown Road, north of Armstrong Ford Road. The chief of the New Hope Fire Department said two cars were involved and one of them caught fire.

Gaston County dispatchers told Channel 9 that one person was killed and another was hurt. That second person was taken to the hospital, but investigators said they’re expected to recover from their injuries.

Their identities have not been released.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw multiple patrol cars blocking the road while officers investigated the crash. Firefighters said they put out the fire before taking the person out of the car.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the crash cleared around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

Troopers are still investigating what caused the crash. Authorities have not said if any charges will be filed.
