CHARLOTTE — One person was taken to the hospital for a crash that involved an ambulance in uptown Charlotte Thursday morning.
A Channel 9 crew could see a MEDIC ambulance with damage to its front bumper on South College Street at east 3rd Street just before 7:30 a.m. An SUV with damage to its side was also nearby.
The two paramedics inside the ambulance were OK but the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Paramedics said they were headed to a call with their lights and sirens on when the crash happened.
In October, Channel 9′s Gina Esposito reported some of Mecklenburg County’s paramedics would no longer respond to certain non-emergency 911 calls with their lights and sirens. The goal of the initiative was to quietly arrive within 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the person’s medical condition.
