MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE, N.C. — Emergency crews were called to Mountain Island Lake after reports that a person crashed his boat into the woods early Friday morning.
Officials told Channel 9 that one person on the boat was hurt after the crash near Steam Plant Road around 11:30 a.m.

Paramedics had to use rescue boats to reach the injured boater because they could not get to him by land.
From Chopper 9, the boat looked to have crashed into the river bank and up into the woods.

Gaston County EMS was able to remove the injured person from the boat and with the assistance of the Huntersville Fire Department, rushed him via boat to the Neck Road boat landing, where they could fly him to the hospital.

Officials said the boater suffered fractured ribs and may have other injuries.
He was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
