CHARLOTTE — Someone shot into a west Charlotte apartment, striking a woman inside early Thursday morning, officials said.

The shooting happened at about 1 a.m. at the Springbrook Apartment Homes along Taggart Springs Drive across from Harding University High School. Six units were struck by gunfire.

“There are a lot of kids in this building,” said a resident. “Thank God a lot of them wasn’t here yesterday.”

The neighbor said she didn’t know the victim but wished her the best.

“I’m meeting a lot of my neighbors now, and it’s bad we’re meeting under these circumstances,” she said.

There was another shooting at about the same time Sunday two miles away at Evoke Living at Westerly Hills.

A 2-year-old was shot while lying in her bed. She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Multiple units were hit there, too.

Police arrested Demetrick McDonald Thursday afternoon in that shooting and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon and 20 counts of firing a gun into a home.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department placed a tower in the parking lot at Evoke Living after the girl was shot.

Residents at Springbrook Apartment Homes said there was a police tower in their parking lot too, after a shooting last month.

However, it was taken down last week.

Police the woman who was shot at Evoke Living at Westerly Hills was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition.
