CHARLOTTE — A person was shot and killed by someone at a gas pump after allegedly stealing from the convenience store, police said.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the QuikTrip on Bellhaven Boulevard, which is in northwest Charlotte off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, an officer was already in the area when he got the larceny call.

CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler said when he saw the officer, the suspect left the QuikTrip, got in a car, and left the scene. He fired one shot out of his car as he left, police said. The officer never fired back.
Butler said eventually, the man returned to the gas station and walked up to someone who was at a pump. The two got into a fight before the person at the pump pulled out a gun, shooting the larceny suspect once.
That man died at the scene, Butler said.
There is no word yet on if there will be charges in the case, but the man at the pump was taken in by police, they said. Police are not looking for any other suspects.

Investigators are also going through surveillance video at the gas station to corroborate what happened.
First responders could be seen from Chopper 9 Skyzoom crowded around one of the pumps. The police investigation appeared to involve a silver car with its driver’s side door open.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom also found officers out in a residential area just two miles from the QuikTrip, along Susanna Drive. Police said at this point, it’s not clear if that scene is connected to the one at the gas station.
Police asked anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a homicide detective. Det. Dossett is the lead detective assigned to this case. Information can also be left anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or by clicking here.
