KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — One person died in a fire overnight in Kannapolis, firefighters said.
Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters were called to a home on Billy Street, near East 22nd Street in Kannapolis. They were assisting Mount Mitchell Fire.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire. They also found someone who had died in the home.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
It’s not clear yet what caused the fire, but the Rowan County Fire Services Division and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
No further information was released.
