CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a driver was killed in a 3-vehicle crash Sunday night in Steele Creek.
Officers said the driver of a Toyota Highlander SUV, Edwin Mercado, died after crossing the center line and hitting another car head-on just before 10 p.m. on Steele Creek Road near Arrival Drive, not far from South Tryon Street.
That car was then rear-ended by another car.
Three people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police are still trying to determine what led to the collision. No citations were issued.
