CHARLOTTE — A bicyclist died Wednesday when he was hit outside of a crosswalk in Steele Creek, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on Steele Creek Road near the Charlotte Premium Outlets and Intestate 485.

Police believe 58-year-old Mihael Stegne was riding his bike across across Steele Creek Road and was outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by a driver headed south. Stegne, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene, investigators said.
The driver stayed at the scene. It doesn’t appear he was speeding, police said.
Stegne’s toxicology report is pending, CMPD said.
