CHARLOTTE — A woman died late Friday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 77 South, MEDIC confirmed.
It happened around 4:45 p.m. just north of the Sunset Road exit in north Charlotte.
According to troopers, it stared when a Honda Fit driving along the interstate got a flat tire. It stopped in the left lane and was trying to get into the right lane when a Chevrolet Silverado hit the car in the back.
A passenger inside the Honda, 33-year-old Ines Estefani Chaponan Gonzales, died at the scene, investigators said.
Someone else had life-threatening injuries, MEDIC said.
Troopers said the investigation is still ongoing.
Most of the lanes on I-77 South were closed but some traffic was flowing through. The crash caused a major traffic backup.
