The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it was responding to the crash. Troopers said they believe a pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer, was driving north on I-85 when the left front tire of the trailer blew out. That caused the truck to run off the road and hit the barrier wall twice, troopers said.
Investigators identified the person who died as Earnest Orlando White, 41, of Charlotte.
