CHARLOTTE — A man died after being hit by a car on Interstate 85 in west Charlotte on Thursday morning, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said they responded around 6:20 a.m. for a Nissan passenger car that struck a person in the left lane of I-85 North near the Tuckaseegee Road bridge.

A Charlotte man was pronounced dead by MEDIC at the scene. Troopers said they are waiting to notify next of kin before releasing the man’s name.

Troopers said the man was wearing dark clothing and in the left lane of the highway. Fog may also have impacted visibility, troopers said.

The driver of the Nissan remained on scene until troopers arrived and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges were filed against the driver and impairment was not believed to be a factor, troopers said.

Two lanes of northbound I-85 remained closed until about 9 a.m.

NCSHP said an investigation into the crash was ongoing.
