CHARLOTTE — A person died after they were hit by a train in northeast Charlotte, paramedics confirmed.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the stopped Amtrak train around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. It was underneath Eastway Drive, between North Tryon Street and The Plaza.
Crews on the ground next to the train appeared to be investigating what had happened.
According to Amtrak, the person who was hit was trespassing on the railroad tracks before the incident, which happened around 1:15 p.m.
Though one person died, no one on board was hurt, Amtrak said.
“Today, Amtrak train 75 was traveling at approx. 1:15 p.m. when an individual who was trespassing on the track came into contact with the train,” the statement from Amtrak reads. “There have been no reported injuries to the 80 passengers or crew onboard. Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.”
