CONCORD, N.C. — A person is dead after an early morning Concord house fire, according to firefighters.
According to the Concord Fire Department, firefighters responded to the fire around 2:27 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Malvern Drive and Salem Street.
Officials said that while crews were on their way, they were notified of a possible victim in the house. A neighbor had been trying to rescue the victim until firefighters arrived.
Crews arrived within four minutes of being dispatched to the fire and said flames and smoke were coming from the front and back doors. Officials said the neighbor who attempted to rescue the victim was forced out by fire and smoke. Firefighters said the victim died at the scene.
The fire was extinguished in just eight minutes and investigators estimated the house had $20,000 worth of the damage. Neither the neighbor or any firefighters were treated for injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Concord Fire Department and Concord Police Department.
The name of the victim has not been released.
