1 dead after crash on I-85 ramp in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — One person is dead after a Friday morning crash on an off ramp from I-85.

Charlotte Fire Department says the ramp from I-85 to West Mallard Creek Church Road was closed for an accident investigation.

Medic says that one person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

North Carolina Highway Patrol says that the driver Jonathan Thomasson, 39, drove off the road on the right side and then overcorrected leaving the road on the left before hitting a tree.

Thomasson was the only person involved in the crash.

Highway Patrol tells us that the road ramp and the road have since reopened.
