CHARLOTTE — One person is dead and two others were seriously hurt in a crash on Interstate 77 in Huntersville Saturday morning, according to paramedics.
The crash happened on the I-77 southbound ramp near Sam Furr Road.
The Huntersville Fire Department said crews were called for a vehicle crashing into a tree around 2:45 a.m. MEDIC said one person died at the scene and two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

One of two southbound lanes on I-77 was closed for several hours. All lanes were back open a little after 6 a.m. Saturday.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
Another crash was reported just down the road on I-77 South, near Lakeview Road in north Charlotte. MEDIC said one person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and three others were seriously hurt.
