KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Police have identified the man killed in a double shooting Sunday afternoon at an apartment complex in Kings Mountain.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. at the Summerfield West Apartments on West Kings Street near Atrium Health Kings Mountain Hospital.
Officials said Quitonio Ellis was found dead at the scene and another man, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to CaroMount Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Neighbor Michael Sadler said he was getting ready for dinner when he heard gunfire.
He told Channel 9 he grew up with Ellis and was talking to him in the parking lot before the shooting.
“I went to the store, came back, and he was dead,” Sadler said.
Kings Mountain police were at the scene for hours trying to piece together what led to the shooting.
“Good guy, you know what I’m saying? Good head on his shoulders. Has kids. Just like everybody else,” Sadler said.
Police said they are not looking for a suspect but did not elaborate.
A relative of the injured victim told Channel 9 he underwent surgery and is still in the hospital.
No additional information has been released.
