CHARLOTTE — One person died in a crash on a southwest Charlotte road that began on Interstate 77, troopers told Channel 9.
It happened before 3 a.m. Friday. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash began on I-77 and ended up on Arrowood Road, under the interstate.
Paramedics said one person died at the scene and a second was taken to the hospital seriously hurt.
Two cars were involved and one was seriously damaged -- it was mangled so badly that Channel 9′s Gina Esposito could see not much of the car remained intact.
Troopers blocked two lanes of I-77 North while they investigated but they reopened around 5:15 a.m. Both directions of Arrowood Road were closed at the interstate until about 6 a.m.
Investigators told Esposito they believe speed was a factor that led to the crash.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
