1 in custody after woman killed in hit-and-run crash in Mount Holly

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — A man has been arrested after a grandmother was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mount Holly.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday on Central Avenue. Police said 42-year-old Amanda Frisbee, who was walking along Central Avenue, was killed when someone hit her with their car and kept going.

Mount Holly police found the suspect’s car later that day and seized it, they said.

Investigators said they took 23-year-old Hishon Jaquise Redfearn into custody Thursday morning and charged him with felonious hit and run.

Redfearn was taken to the Gaston County jail where he is being held with a $750,000 bond.

“Due to the swift response of our officers, assistance from the community, and all resources available to our department, we were able to locate the suspect and make the arrest,” Mount Holly Police Chief Reagan said in a statement. “We want to share our sincerest condolences with the victim’s family, and we stand ready to provide support during this difficult time.”

Family members told Channel 9′s Ken Lemon Wednesday that the driver had to be speeding because the speed limit on that street is 25 miles per hour. They felt anyone traveling at that speed could have easily avoided a crash.
