'The Last Days of JFK Jr.': A documentary on John F. Kennedy Jr.'s life and last days

The world was saddened when John F Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and her sister Lauren Bessette were killed in a plane crash en route to a family wedding on July 16, 1999.

Now, 20 years after his death, ABC News presents a two-hour special that explores the details of John's complicated life from his father's assassination just before his third birthday to his professional and marital struggles. 

As President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr. was known worldwide from the moment he was born.

John's life was filled with tragedy from an early age from his father's assassination just before his third birthday to his struggles with finding himself, jumping from law to magazine publishing.

His good looks and charm brought him fame, but it was flying that brought him solace.

John took to the sky to escape the limelight and tragically, flying is also what ended his life.

“The Last Days of JFK Jr.” will explore the pressures he faced throughout his life and the impact they had on his final days.

“The Last Days of JFK Jr.” airs Thursday at 9 p.m., only on Channel 9. It's followed by Eyewitness News at 11 p.m.
