'Thank you, Jesus!': NC hurricane victim wins $200K on scratch-off ticket

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A Robeson County man's years of bad luck due to hurricanes has turned around, thanks to a winning scratch-off ticket.

Mark Hall Jr. bought a $5 ticket when he stopped for gas in Lumberton, he scratched it and he couldn't believe his eyes when he won $200,000.

"Thank you, Jesus!" Hall said in a statement. "I feel so blessed right now. Thank you! I wasn't sure what I won at first. I needed to look at it again. My head started spinning. I was speechless."

He took home over $140,000 after taxes, according to our news partners WTVD.

Hall said he plans to use the money to rebuild his home, which was damaged during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and Hurricane Florence in 2018.

He also plans to use what is left to go to college and possibly open his own business.

"I wasn't able to go after I graduated high school, but now I can," Hall said. "I do landscaping and electrical work right now, but after I go back to school, I could open my own business. This is going to open a whole new world for me."
