HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Hopewell High School’s marching band has been invited to play the 2022 Peach Bowl in Atlanta that is set to be held Dec. 31.
However, last Friday, the school announced that it had fallen short of the funds needed to attend. Out of its $85,000 goal, the school said it had only raised $60,000. Their goal was to raise the remaining $15,000 by Tuesday.
On Sunday, the school announced that it not only met its goal but exceeded it with a final tally of more than $21,000. despite the tight deadline.

“A lot of one-worders,” said band director Curtis Bells about what came to his mind about achieving the goal. “[It’s} unbelievable. Student here says “woohoo”. Boy we were hustling. This is incredible.”
Bell said that it is the band’s first time being invited to the Peach Bowl and the chance of a lifetime and they couldn’t have gotten it done without the community.
“For them to come together in such a short deadline and just make this thing happen for us was just, it’s just unbelievable,” Bell said of the community.

The school also released a statement about meeting the goal.
“This is truly the beginning of a journey the Titanium Sound Band was always meant to be on,” the school said. “But we needed our community to get us there. The best is yet to come, because of you.”
Bell and his group are excited for the opportunity to showcase a show they have worked on for months.
“Even for me, myself, it’s a memory that I’ll carry with me forever,” Bell said. “So I’m just excited.”
Money is still coming in, according to Bell. If you wish to donate to the band, click here.
