CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Prosecutors began connecting the dots Monday between the evidence and a teenager accused of raping an 83-year-old woman.
Experts from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stood in front of the jury on Monday, showing whose DNA was found and where.
Robert McFadden, 18, is accused of raping an elderly woman last year.
On Monday, through testimony, the jury learned of semen samples found on the 83-year-old's shirt and underwear.
Experts testified there wasn't enough of a sample on the clothing to determine an identity, but they did get a good sample from a condom prosecutors say was used in the rape.
"From the sperm cell fraction of the swabs taken from the interior of the condom, I developed a DNA profile that matched the DNA profile obtained from Robert McFadden," investigator Aby Moeykens said.
On the outside of the condom, Moeykens said she found DNA from two people. She told the jury there was a high probability the samples belong to McFadden and the 83-year-old woman.
The condom being used as evidence was found outside of a home near McFadden's.
On Monday afternoon, McFadden's attorney asked the DNA expert if it could have been contaminated, and the DNA expert said it was possible.
The trial continues on Tuesday.
