Iconic JFG Coffee Sign Getting New Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — The famous JFG Coffee Sign is getting a new home in the Queen City.

On Monday, the Charlotte City Council unanimously approved the placement of the JFG sign atop the VBGB Beer Hall & Garden located at the N.C. Music Factory complex.

The sign is a 40-year-old Charlotte icon that was taken down in 2009 from its original location, which was near the John Belk Freeway and Bank of America Stadium.

After Charlotte residents learned that it would be removed there was an outpouring of support to restore the sign and find a new home for it.

"We're excited to be returning to Charlotte's skyline at last," said JFG Marketing Director Mary-Wanda Fandiño. "Heritage and tradition mean a lot to JFG Coffee. That's why our new home at the landmark Music Factory complex is an ideal location for our historic sign. We sincerely hope the people of Charlotte are happy about this location, too."

The sign underwent refurbishment at the SignArt Company, while JFG and Historic Charlotte partnered to start a new campaign, Save Our Signs, that raised $13,200 to preserve other vintage signs around the Queen City.

"The campaign's results were fantastic," said Historic Charlotte's Director Diane Althouse. "And Charlotte rallied to the challenge of saving Charlotte's unique roadside wonders. It is a great start to what we think will be a long-running program of preservation and stabilization for an important part of the Charlotte region's history."

The newly polished JFG sign will be up at its new home by May.
